About silicon systems

Our History

In August 2010 silicon systems (silicon systems seifert gmbh) was founded by the Austrian scientist Mag. Bernhard Seifert, M.Sc. and Austrian engineer Ing. Reinhard Seifert. The company focuses on the development, manufacture and calibration of highly accurate instruments, data acquisition products, general purpose digital and analog modules. We offer complete system solutions for industrial applications as well as components for sophisticated experiments at universities or research institutes where accuracy, stability and reliability play the key role.

In 2016, silicon systems entered the IoT market using the knowledge and experience gathered from established products. We provide customized solutions for remote control and data acquisition demands where mobile data networks are preferably over wired networks.

Since 2017 silicon systems is manufacturing and qualifying power electronics for space applications in larger scale. Prior production, precise procedures are elaborated with the respective customers to guarantee highest quality and reproducibility. Proper acceptance testing and documentation is a key aspect for high-reliability products.

The company resides in Vienna, Austria and attends customers in the whole world. As customer satisfaction is one of our major concerns, we are working hard to provide you our best support. We try to accompany our products during their whole life cycle since we are interested in the successful application and field of use. This helps us to further improve our products and to better meet the needs of our customers.

Who we are

Bernhard Seifert, MSc BSc

Bernhard Seifert, MSc BSc obtained his master in physics from the University of Vienna, Austria in 2005. He received his bachelor of technical computer engineering from the Vienna Technical University in 2009. As an experienced firmware programmer and electronic engineer, he is developing a variety of software and hardware solutions.

From 2003 to 2010 he was working for the Austrian Institute of Technology in Seibersdorf, Austria, the largest research company in Austria. He focused on the development of liquid metal ion sources for electric propulsion solutions. He strongly improved the existing data acquisition and control system for automated ion emitter testing. Since 2011 he is also working for the University of Applied Sciences and the affiliated company FOTEC in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. There he focuses on miniature electrical propulsion systems for satellites and outstandingly sensitive measurement electronics.

Ing. Reinhard Seifert

Ing. Reinhard Seifert attended the school for higher technical education in Vienna, Austria and graduated in 1967. He is experienced in the field of technical sciences and was working as an engineer and technical manager at the Vienna State Opera for more than three decades.

From 2010 he has focused on the management of the company and takes care of administrative, fiscal and legal issues.

Our Philosophy

silicon systems focuses on highly accurate, powerful, energy-efficient and easy-to-use solutions when developing novel products and technologies. Instead of introducing a new communication bus or network standard, our products use the established Ethernet network standard IEEE 802.3 (LAN) which is widely used in most laboratories, factories, or office buildings. Our products are supplied via Power over Ethernet IEEE 802.3af (PoE).

Modern industrial applications or experiments performed at universities or research institutes need to be maintained or observed over the Internet which demands the usage of intelligent, distributed network nodes. These should offer a standardized interface, so that the test engineer can easily check if all components work in accordance with their specifications.

In the past, several large electronics and semiconductor industry companies made efforts to introduce new communication buses or network interfaces. Some of them succeeded and got established as de-facto standards, such as PoE before it got standardized.

Others disappeared quite fast or are hardly used anymore. In contrast silicon systems only uses only standardized, well documented and open network technologies to offer maximum compatibility, reliability, maintainability and long-term operation.

Modularity and scalability are important issues in modern applications. Our products can easily be removed for calibration or replaced, and new products can be added without interrupting or negatively affecting the other modules. Therefore, one can easily adopt the system to changing application requirements.

Since all our products are supplied via PoE, there is no need for an extra power supply for any module which makes the entire data acquisition system power efficient comfortably to maintain. Moreover, the electrical installations of the building do not need to be modified.

Awards

GENIUS Award 2011

Riz up, the start-up agency for Lower Austria, supports and advises start-up companies in Vienna and Lower Austria. In December 2011, the GENIUS competition took place for the eleventh time, focusing on intelligent measurement and sensor technologies. Among more than one hundred interesting and innovative submissions, silicon systems was awarded the GENIUS 2011 prize. The submitted project was entitled Innovative Measurement & Control Technologies and described the advantages and possibilities of the company's products and solutions.
